Australia's Fashion Fantasia
Australia's Fashion Fantasia is an annual event in Hobart, Tasmania for textile artists to display their skills. There is a section for students, which grows every year. See www.fashionfantasia.com.au
In 2004 there were entries from all over Australia, some from New Zealand and one from the USA.
My entries were a jacket, Great Barrier Reef in the Body Covers Section which got a Highly Commended and a dress and mask, Phoenix Rising from the Ashes in the Carnivale Section. In 2005 this dress was invited to be in the Flasback to 2004 section of the event. The Great Barrier Reef was invited to be exhibited in the 2007 event.
Photography from 2004 is by Bruce Hutchison and he owns the copyright for the photographs. See http://www.users.bigpond.com/bruce.foto/.
The photo above was taken at Australia's Fashion Fantasia in 2005 when the dress was shown as part of the Flashback to 2004. It was taken by Studio 29, 86 Murray Street Hobart and they own the copyright for this photo.
This dress was sent to Perth Western Australia for exhibition in the August 2010 Craft Show.
Great Barrier Reef - Highly Commended Jacket

Phoenix Rising from the Ashes - Carnivale Section 2004
Phoenix rising from the Ashes
The blue/red organza flames rise from the heat of the fire, turning orange/yellow as they cool. Gores of silver free machined "ashes'' are left on the sides. The sleeves and bodice show some flames in the orange/red lacing. The phoenix rises in the face mask, to show itself to the world once again.
The Great Barrier Reef is a hand knitted jacket made from individual squares depicting creatures of the deep and coral. This jacket was later sold.
