Art to Wear 2006
SPIRIT OF JOY
Every year the Quilters' Guild of NSW holds an Art to Wear exhibition at Darling Harbour, Sydney in conjunction with The Quilt Show. I was fortunate to have my garment Spirit of Joy accepted for display alongside the best textile artists in Australia from 14-18 June 2006.  This dress is inspired by artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser's Joy of Man paintings.  His simplicity of style is kept throughout, using some of his favourite elements. The bodice has darker tints in the onion-shaped domes, contrasting with the essential element of colour in the irregular fencing, the spiral trees and boats. To keep the dress light and fluid, embellishments were made of delicate painted silks carefully chosen to give a sense of happiness and joy.
This dress was entered in Australia's Fashion Fantasia in Hobart, Tasmania in November 2006.
